2000 and Whatever – Australia

We may not get to see our 2020 favourites take to the stage, but that doesn’t mean we can’t reminisce on our Eurovision favourites. This series is aimed to discover the team’s favourite entries from the 21st century, from 2001 to 2019.

In collaboration with ESCDaily, we will be reviewing some of their 21st Century favourites, while over on their site, you will find their reviews of our favourites!

Below our reviews, you will find a poll where you can vote for your favourite Eurovision entry from the 21st Century.

Anita Reviews Dennis’ 21st Century Favourite

Guy Sebastian – Tonight Again | 5th place, 196 Points (Final)

Although it wasn’t Australia’s best Eurovision result, I still maintain that this was Australia’s best entry thus far. I suppose being a fan of Guy Sebastian for many years gives me some bias, but everything is just so great about this song and performance. Is it his best song? Definitely not, but it’s infectious, joyful, and in my opinion, performed perfectly.

The visual performance was perhaps not the best Australia has shown at Eurovision (KMH, we’re looking at you) but Guy is unrivalled in how effortless he is in his performance. Seriously love everything about this, it’s just such a feel good entry.

Joshua Reviews Brandon’s 21st Century Favourite

Dami Im – Sound of Silence | 2nd Place, 511 Points (Final)

As an Australian, it’s hard not to get patriotic after watching Dami Im absolutely smash the live performance of this song. As a studio track, ‘Sound of Silence’ is not my favourite, but Dami’s live vocal ability brought this entry to life in Stockholm. Dami delivered an unforgettable performance, all the way up until that dramatic final note. It’s still tough to think about how close Australia came to winning Eurovision with this, but I’m sure our time will come soon…
